How long do library cards stay active? Answered By: Deirdre Routt

In general, for a Douglas County resident, an account needs to be renewed every 5 years so we can verify address & contact information. Temporary resident cards are renewed very 3 months. However, there can be other reasons, such as returned email or mail, for a card to become inactive.

You can check your library card's expiration date at any Omaha Public Library or view it in your account.

To renew your library card, please bring in a photo ID and proof of your current address to any library. Payment of any fines/fees is also required to renew your account for the maximum amount of time.

Parents/guardians can renew accounts for their children, without the children being present, as long as fees are paid in full and ID/address verification is shown by the parent/guardian.
