Hi - appreciate your service. I'm somewhat new to the library and have the following question. I have about 8 books currently "on hold" and am wondering if this is too much and if so can you suggest best way to optimize the use of the"on hold" service? Thank you.

Answer

Not too much!  You can have up to 40 holds, and this can be useful, since for some popular materials you might be waiting for a while.  You also have the possibility to suspend a hold--for example, if you are going on vacation for a couple of weeks and are worried that your hold might arrive when you are not able to pick it up (you can't do this if you are number one on the list, however, or if the hold has arrived).

You can find more detailed information here on placing, suspending, and canceling holds.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have more questions.
