I don't remember the name or author of the book: What I do remember is that it took place in a hospital somewhere around the sierra leone area, a doctor and a catholic nun work together and she dies giving birth to twin sons, the book is mainly about the sons...raised by a midwife who also works with same doctor. I lost the book and so was not able to finish it.

Thanks for asking! After a couple of false starts I feel pretty confident that it's Abraham Verghese's Cutting for Stone. It's got the twin brothers, born to a surgeon and nun, complications in childbirth, and the complex relationship between the brothers in later life. By all accounts a tremendous book - if you need help getting another copy requested so you can finish the story, feel free to write back here or call 402-444-4800!
