A group of us is trying to remember the name of a Jewish restaurant on the north side of Center--about 85th & Center. It was inside a building that included The Viking Shop.
It was there around 1963. They had a wonderful Sunday buffet brunch.

Thanks for your question! With a quick glance at our historic city directories and using our trial subscription to the Historic Omaha World Herald, I think I have a decent guess. If you have an Omaha Public Library card, you should be able to access this article from April 23, 1971 when Dippy's Delicatessen opened at 8456 Center St. That location was previously occupied by Antone's Ice Cream Parlor, and briefly by a Dippy's Donuts owned by the same family. It may be a little later than expected, but a kosher deli at the correct address feels like a pretty likely match to me.

Thanks again for your question! Allow me to recommend the Historic OWH, accessible through our resource center at omahalibrary.org It's great fun to browse through memories of Omaha with articles, stories, and ads in their original context. Please feel free to follow up here or call 402-444-4800 with additional questions.
