I am connected to internet but Overdrive tells me I'm not. I can't put the book into Overdrive Console to play. What can I do.

Hello,

If you are using a PC or a Mac, please try the below steps.

1.  Configure firewalls or Internet security applications to allow OverDrive Media Console and/or Windows Media Player to have Internet access.

2.  Disable any web accelerators that you may be running.

3.  Add proxy server log-in information to OverDrive Media Console as follows......

    a.  Open OverDrive Media Console and select Tools > Options.

    b.  Check the box next to 'My Internet connection requires authentication'

    c.  Complete the 'User name' and 'Password' fields

    d.  Click 'OK'

If you are having this issue on a mobile device:

1.  Open Settings and choose “Wi-Fi”

2.  Find the wireless network the device is connected to and tap on the (>) blue arrow – not the name of the router.

3.  Under the DHCP tab (the default), scroll down to reveal “Renew Lease” and tap on it, confirm to renew the lease when asked.

  1. I'm having the same problem. I'm obviously connected to the internet and, though I have successfully downloaded audiobooks many times, this morning it's not working. I'm getting the error message "A connection to the Internet could not be established." I have read the suggested "fix", but can't find "Tools" on my OverDrive Media Console. Also, why would this problem suddenly appear? I'd sure appreciate some advice. Thank you!

  2. If you are using OverDrive Media Console on your computer, the "Tools" menu is located in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Also, please make sure you are using the most recent version of the software.

  5. I too am getting the incorrect no internet connection message. This appeared a few days ago. I have been using it perfectly for several years and only now have this problem. Any advice? I am on an iPad and iPhone app.

  6. Having exactly the same problem which started 2 days ago. Tried to uninstall and re-install but cannot login because I get the same message-device not connected to internet- even when patently am connected. I am using ipad v4. Works ok on my phone but scren is too small to read books.

  7. I've also used this app successfully for several years on my iPad mini. Suddenly two days ago 'jammed'. Tried to reinstall only to get the message when I try to make initial sign in 'not connected to Internet. What happening and who can we contact to sort it?

  9. I am having the same problem. I have tried all of the things you suggested in the last post. I am not able to get into Overdrive to sign in due to: "Internet not Available". I have internet to the device. The only thing that I was not able to try was to " Authorize" the app. There is no such thing in my settings menu.

  10. I have tried everything in the suggested answers and still saying the same thing, that there is no internet connection when I have no problem accessing internet on all my other apps.

    This would appear to be a problem with the app please fix it

  11. So glad Iam not the only one getting this message I have used overdrive regularly on my iPad mini for about 2yrs with no problems until about 2 wks ago & now I can't access it at all & none of the suggestions have worked for me either

I tried to open overdrive this morning but have not been able to, having the same problem as others keep getting message no internet connection however my ipad air is connected, i have deleted and reinstalled the app but still having same pronlem. I did a software update on the ipad yesterday not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. I have a 1st generation ipad and have managed to open overdrive and get to my local library no without any problem. I would be grateful for any advice on how to fix this problem.

  13. I am having exactly the same problem on my i-pad. All was fine until 4 days ago. I have tried just about everything and called my library but nobody seems to know what to do. I am getting fed up with being told I need to be connected to the internet WHEN I AM!!!!!!!

  14. Hi Folks! This forum/help service is owned by the Omaha Public Library in Omaha, Nebraska. Most of you are from the UK that are having this issue. I've spoken with OverDrive and they are aware of the issue with the iOS app and unfortunately don't have a timeline for a fix.

    In the meantime here is a workaround: you may be able to use the Safari browser on your devices to access your library website. From there, you should be able to use the OverDrive Read format for eBooks and OverDrive Listen format for any audiobooks you have. If you attempt to download the title from the Safari browser this may also work, as it should open in the OverDrive application. However if that does cause issues, the Read and Listen formats will work best as these formats do not need to be downloaded and can be read/listened to in the browser.

  15. Thank you very much for posting this as at last there is an answer. I am also from the UK and having the same problem. I have been trying for days to get OverDrive to work on my IPad also searching the web for answers all to no avail. I do feel that OverDrive should put a note on their website that there is a problem so that those of us who are having this problem don't waste time trying to fix things and trying to find other websites for answers.

  17. I found a solution for my “A Connection to the Internet Could Not Be Established” problem.

    I have been using OverDrive on Windows XP as well as on other devices and newer PCs.
    But recently I encountered this problem of “A Connection to the Internet Could Not Be Established”

    I found that IE was not working. So I tried to find the solutions for IE as well as OverDrive.
    I have IE as my default browser but I usually use other browers.

    For some reason, IE was set to "Work Offline" and when I reset to original settings, the settings in Internet Options in IE, the problems were solved.

    When I solved the IE problem, OverDrive problem was also resolved.

    Hope you too would resolve your OverDrive problem.

  21. My solution which came from my local library was to uninstall the app, then turn the iPad off. Turn back on again and reinstall . It worked. I had uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck, but by powering the iPad off between the two it does what's needed, thanks Kent County Councils (UK) library team for this answer
