I am looking for the book "The Snow Leopard" by Peter Matthiessen, but it doesn't seem to be in your collection. Is it possible to do an interlibrary loan if you can find it?

Answer

Thanks for asking! You're correct that Peter Matthiessen's "Snow Leopard" is not currently in the Omaha Public Library collection. It appears that we had it in years past but that our last copy has been worn out or lost. Given its limited availability in print, I think that interlibrary loan is the perfect solution. You can find a rundown of our Interlibrary Loan policies and procedures here. We can provide you with a paper request form at any branch location, or you can file requests online and track their status using the WorldCat database linked from our ILL page. If you're interested in using WorldCat, register for an account and use your Omaha Public Library card number as your username with a password of your choice. Doing so will make it much easier to follow up on the status of your requests.

The most important thing to know up front is that our inter-library loan service does carry a postage cost to be paid when you pick up the book. The maximum charge is $6.00, though it's often closer to $2.50. Hopefully a small price to pay for Peter Matthiessen!

Please feel free to call our interlibrary loan department at 402.444.4857 with any questions!
