Answer

Bert Murphy is the correct spelling.  According to the book The Streets of Omaha: Their Origins and Changes, by H. Ben Brick, it is named after Andrew Albert ("Bert") Murphy.  Murphy was Omaha's first big auto mechanic and dealer just after the turn of the last century.  A picture of him is here, found at historicomaha.com.  He also had descendants who used the name.

Murphy also was President of the then-influential Omaha Athletic Club, so it's no surprise that the street that used to be Rosenblatt's address bears his name.

There is also this anecdotal evidence posted to wiki.answers.com - it's not an authoritative source (And they spelled his name wrong) but it's a fun story!

  1. Just this last weekend I was going through my family tree, and I saw that Andrew Albert Murphy is my great-great-great-grandfather, the street was infact named after him because he donated over a million dollars in today's money to the construction of rosenblat.
