Answer

Dear Cheryl,

I would probably begin by looking for this person in the 1860 census, but we'd need a first name and a little more information. What sources have you already consulted? If it is convenient for you to come into one of the OPL branches, we could get you started with the Ancestry.com database. Or call the genealogy department at W. Dale Clark Library (the downtown branch) for assistance. If the person ended up in Nebraska we have quite a few local history resources in addition to databases and websites. We usually recommend that you start with known facts and move backward in time. Let me know if I can help.
