How to null fines on overdue books that were renewed?

I renewed items after they were announced overdue. Shouldn't these fines be cancled?

Thank you for your question.

There is a twenty-five cent a day (per item) fine on all materials. The fines will continue to accumulate until the item is returned.  $5.00 is the maximum amount (per item) for fines.  Once it reaches the $5.00 amount it stops accumulating.

By renewing your items, you have stopped the overdue fine process and no more fines will accrue until after the new due date. However, there will be a fine triggered for the amount of days the items have already been overdue.

On a side note, previous to October 1, 2010 there was a four day grace period when no fines would be assessed for the first four days after an item's due date.  This policy has be changed and there is no longer a grace period.  All items are due on their due dates and overdue fines will start accordingly.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
