Q

We checked out quite a few paperbacks and knew we were late returning them. It has been a long time since we used the library.

Sadly, we waited to get a reminder from the libary in order to remember/find the exact number and correct books -seems like we used to get reminder before. I gather now we just get the one late notice when the books are quite overdue and have reached the max fine and no warning notice before then? I am a bit frustrated at this policy since we were not too concerned keeping track as we expected a reminder earlier. If you could explain your policy? This may be why we quit going to the lib.

Answer

Our email “pre-notices” (that go out a few days before items are due) are not guaranteed.  We attempt to provide them as a courtesy but cannot guarantee you will get a pre-notice.  Please be sure to get a due date receipt whenever you check out so you will know when items are due.

Our overdue email notices are not sent until an item is at least 18 days overdue, so, for example, the fine accrual is already at $3.60 when we send the first overdue notice.  If you return the item before it is 18 days overdue, you will not receive a notice.

Also, you can, at any time, call one of our branches and ask a staff member when your items are due.  Or login to your online account to see when they are due, and even renew items from here!
