Q

Would you be able to provide the name and author of a song we sang in school?

It goes, "Out where the river crosses the valley, out where the west stretches wide---" Would you have a book containing the song?

Answer

We are working on this, but we need some more information. Do you remember what grade you were in when you sang it? Do you know what the year was when you remember singing it?

Thanks!

  1. I was in seventh grade in the Ironton, Ohio school system in 1955-1956 when we sang this. It's obviously a cowboy song, but I can't find anything on the Internet. Thank you for your response!!!

  2. I would like to revive this question, as I have not heard anything so far. Do you know anywhere else I might seek an answer? This song was in a music textbook in1956, when I attended an elementary school in Ironton, Ohio. Thanks in advance.

  3. Hi! We have librarians searching for an answer to this again. Could the song be "Shenandoah": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_Shenandoah?

  4. Another possibility could be Out Where The West Begins (http://bit.ly/12RSdKp).

We recommend that you also check the school district were you sang this song or a historical textbook collection in the Curriculum Library of a university's School of Education.
