Im trying to learn ASL and i was wondering if the library had any events such as a sign language club or meet up?

Thanks for asking! I don't think that there are currently any library-sponsored or affiliated ASL meetups or conversational learning classes. Even though we won't be able to support your learning in that way, I think we may still have a couple useful options for you.

Your library card gives you access to a language learning product called Mango Languages, which now includes a basic ASL course. Follow this link to sign in with your card information or see our Resource Center at omahalibrary.org.

While it's no substitute for conversational learning, the library also has access to a good mix of ASL learning books and DVDs you can use for initial vocabulary building and practice. See this catalog search for some options.

The Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing does publish a list of ASL classes in the tri-state area, which you can find here. Most are for-cost and will probably be more appropriate for a later stage in your learning.

Thanks again for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
