can I view a July 5 1934 world herald
Library cardholders can access archives of the Omaha World-Herald from anywhere through our website at omahalibrary.org. Our Resource Center collects the various databases the library subscribes to. One thing that can be confusing is that there are two access points to the same system - one we identify as the Gilbert M. and Martha H. Hitchcock Historic Omaha World-Herald Digital Archive (yes, it's a mouthful, but it was an extremely generous donation) that covers the paper from 1867-1983 and will display images of the paper as it originally appeared on the page. A connected subscription from Newsbank holds content from 1983-present in HTML plain text; it will show up in our database list as Omaha World-Herald. You can also move between the two collections inside the database. Both sides are keyword searchable and will allow you to specify a date range or specific date to search.
Practically speaking, if you're searching for a date in 1934 and don't get any results, check to see if you're searching only the historical collection!
If you need to find a photograph or something visual from the July 5, 1934 date, visit our Main Library at 215 S 15 St and you can access microfilm of the complete run of the World-Herald. You'll be able to scan or print from the microfilm, which will look about like a grayscale photocopy of the original newspaper page.
Thanks again for asking, thanks for calling for assistance, and thanks for using AskOPL!
