Do you have records of major events in Omaha (Florence), from March of 1948. I'm trying to find information on the Ward Nursing Home fire.

It was a major fire, and my grandmother ran the home and was one of the people who died.

We do have clipping files at the W. Dale Clark Library, covering fires and other events; we also have the fire department's annual reports, but unfortunately not for 1948 or 1949.  The best way to find information about this fire is probably by searching the digital Omaha World Herald archives, which you can access at home with an Omaha Public Library card, via the Resource Center tab on our website. I found some results by searching on the address of the rest home, 2429 Pinkney, and limiting the search to 1948. I'm sending you one of those articles separately.

Let me know if you have any trouble searching! If you do not have an Omaha Public Library card, please see our research policy and price list here.

Best wishes,

Martha/Main Library
