Q

How do you choose which books to order for the libraries?

Do you work off of the New York Times bestseller list? If an author contacts you directly with a request to carry their book, do you?

Answer

Thanks for asking! Our collection development team uses a number of tools and consults a number of sources in selecting books for the library - book reviews, publishing industry journals, bestseller lists, vendor recommendations, suggestions from patrons, and more. Acquisition decisions are guided by our Collection Development Policy

Authors are welcome to submit their work for consideration through the process laid out in our Authors & Writers FAQ. Author-suggested titles are assessed by the same criteria as all other materials, and there's no guarantee that the title will be added to our collection, but we've found some great books through that channel!

Thanks for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
