Answer

An important question here is where did he pass away? Often you can find recent obituaries simply by doing a google search for the name and "obituary." Most newspapers' online sites allow you to search obituary backfiles back a year or so (Omaha World Herald, for example). Legacy.com is a good site to find recent obituaries from anywhere in the United States: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/local. The Greater Omaha Genealogical Society maintains an index of obituaries at https://omahaobits.wordpress.com/, but only for Omaha-area deaths (and probably not recently deceased).

Finally, I'll just mention that not everyone has an obituary--they can be expensive, so if the deceased did not leave family or friends who thought it important, there might not be any notice in the newspaper.

Let us know if we can help you further.

Best wishes,
