Q

I'm looking for juvenile nonfiction books about the Oregon Trail. Is there a general call number I can browse under?

I just want to see/browse the books OPL carries about the Oregon Trail. I'm doing a project for school about the Oregon Trail where I compile a list of resources about a topic.

Answer

Thanks for asking! I would recommend beginning with a catalog search at omahalibrary.org for "Oregon Trail" and applying search filters for Nonfiction content and Juvenile and/or Teen audiences. I have created such a search here that you can use for an example.

If you're interested in browsing the stacks at your neighborhood library, materials about the Oregon Trail and westward migration should be under the Dewey call ranges 917.8 and 978. The 978s are one of the larger sections of most branches' American History collections, so don't hesitate to ask a librarian for help finding what you need.

Your card also gives you access to digital library resources like the Explora database, which may help expand your bibliography with other sources.

Thanks for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
