Where can I find information about Reed Desk Co.of Omaha?

I have a desk made by then that was shipped to an elementary school in North Platte. I'd like to try to date the desk.

Thanks for asking! I would recommend a mix of the Historic Omaha World-Herald Archives available to our cardholders and the collection of historic city directories available on the 3rd floor of our W. Dale Clark library in downtown Omaha for further research. I've pulled together some basic information from those sources that I'll include below:

J.C. Reed's office furniture supply store was active for many years at 1207 Farnam St. in Omaha. It first appears in the 1915 City Directory under the name "JC Reed Express Co." and is listed as "JC Reed Desk Co." by the early 1920s. An Omaha World Herald newspaper article announced that Reed sold the furniture firm to E. E. Burns Nov 2, 1934, and the last advertisement printed / last newspaper mention of the Reed Desk Co. appeared in the World-Herald Apr 28, 1936.

So, I can say with some confidence that you're looking in the range 1915-1936. I encourage you to check out the World-Herald database or pay us a visit if you need to further narrow down the provenance of the desk. Thanks for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
