Q

Is the Summer Reading program account separate from actual OPL accounts now?

Grandpa had the kids at a branch yesterday to sign them up, they each had their cards, but were told they needed their PIN #s also. So today I went through the online sing-up, it asked for my library card #, but nothing else, and minimal info for the kids. Is it no longer linked to each individual's OPL library card account online? Or did I just do something incorrectly?

Answer

I am sorry you had this bother! No, the Summer Reading program is no longer tied to your library card, so the PIN is not needed (we're using a new software this year, and whoever was helping your family may have been unclear on the new process...). It's helpful to include it since it makes it easier to track participants, especially if they forget the username or password they set up, but it is not required.

It sounds like you did everything right! And please apologize to Grandpa on our behalf. We want him to keep going to the library!

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Best wishes,

Martha/Main Library
