Q

Do you have the book called " Reaching for the stars: the inspiring story of a migrant" by Jose M. Hernandez?

I am really interested in reading that book. I am wanting to become an astronaut one day and would like to read that book because it is about a young boy who worked in the fields and later on was able to achive his dream.

Answer

Thanks for asking! I'm glad that you find Mr. Hernandez' story inspirational as you pursue your own career goals! Unfortunately, Omaha Public Library does not own a copy of Reaching for the Stars. Here are the steps that I would recommend:

1. Suggest the book for purchase using this form, and I will also suggest it to our collection development team. You can find information the form will ask for (like the publisher's name and the book's ISBN number) from its page on Amazon. You'll be able to see when your suggestion has been reviewed and whether we will be able to order the book.

2. The biography was published in 2012, which falls outside the window that our vendors can usually deliver, and is now a few years behind the current events of Mr. Hernandez' life. If we do not purchase a copy of Reaching for the Stars, we can seek it for you through a process called inter-library loan. Ask at your neighborhood library or look for more information on our inter-library loan page

3. While you wait to see if we can acquire the book, take a look at these biographical information pages for and articles about Mr. Hernandez: NASA bio, University of California - Santa Barbara, Hernandez Foundation page. You may also find other interesting books about space exploration or biographies of other astronauts by searching our library catalog.

Thanks again for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL! Please don't hesitate to ask if we can help you find other resources to support your interest in science and space exploration.
