I am trying to check out an e-book, and it says available, but when I click check out it makes me put it on hold.

Thanks for asking! In the abstract it's tough to say; I'll offer a couple of thoughts, but feel free to give us a call at 402-444-4800 or your neighborhood library for support more specific to this particular title and situation. 

Our ebook collections have gradually become more visible in our primary catalog at but there are still a few odd little quirks in how those systems are integrated. For example, if you're used to using the "Available Now" search filter to see what books are and aren't on the shelf, it's very misleading for ebooks in the primary catalog. The options for each catalog record should show correctly "Request This Download" or "Checkout Now", but that "Available Now" filter will not correctly reflect its status.

If you're looking in the Overdrive App or our dedicated ebook catalog at (formerly, the availability information should be correct unless something very unusual is happening. Give us a call with the particular title you're looking at and we'll see if we can figure anything out!
