Q

I would like to donate a few boxes of books to the library; is there a branch that is in more need than others?

Answer

Thanks for asking! You can make your donation at any Omaha Public Library location, wherever is most convenient for you. Donated items aren't necessarily added in to the library's collection; while we may assess donated materials for titles that might fill gaps in our collection, most donated materials find a home in the Friends of Omaha Public Library book sale at the W. Clarke Swanson branch library. The Friends' sale is a significant financial support for library programs, so your donation will be put to good use.

Due to limited space and high volume, the Friends do ask that encyclopedias and magazines not be donated. Otherwise, almost all books and media are fair game. We'll handle the sorting and transportation and can provide you with a simple donation receipt for tax reporting. If you could use assistance with unloading the boxes, mention to the front desk staff at any library that you have materials to donate and we can send someone out with a cart to help.

Thanks for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
