Q

I have 40 years of National Graphic Magazines (1970 to 2010) in Nat Geo slip covers. Would the O.P.L. accept them as a donation?.

Thanks for asking! We appreciate you thinking of us, but I'm afraid we'll have to decline. We have a full set of National Geographic in bound volume, plus duplicates, that is sufficient to our collection needs. Due to space constraints the Friends of Omaha Public Library are also not able to accept magazine donations for their ongoing book sale.

We've reached an interesting era where National Geographic collections are proving out like encyclopedia sets; they're beautiful objects that feel like they should have significance, but because they were so widely collected they've become incredibly difficult to rehome.

My best recommendations lately for finding a donation opportunity for them have been to look toward senior living centers for resident/waiting room browsing or elementary classrooms for art, science, and geography projects.

Thanks again for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
