Thanks for asking! The only copy of The Crossing (assuming we're talking the 2000 title with Jeff Daniels about the Battle of Trenton) currently in the catalog belongs to one of the Metro Community College libraries. Our relationship with MCC has created some great opportunities, but there are a few odd corners where our lending practices are not the same. This, in turn, can produce some unexpected errors and problems for patrons using our catalog.

First off, I would check to be sure that you're attempting to request the DVD on the card of a person who is over 18; MCC will not allow any of their materials to circulate to persons under that age. Second, though this appears to be an item that would be shared with our customers, it's possible that the item has been requested to be kept on reserve for a course at the college and would only be available to students in the campus library.

Those are the two most likely scenarios, though there might be a couple more arcane settings and situations. I would encourage you to try requesting the item on an adult's card, and if the same error persists call Gary Katz, the MCC library manager, at (402)738-4737. He can give you the most thorough picture of what may be happening and why.

Thanks for asking, and thanks for using AskOPL!
