Q

I have a book on hold that has been marked as "in transit" for several weeks now. Is there a problem with the book?

The book is Back to the Future: Citizen Brown. I had placed a hold on it when it was On Order. A couple weeks ago it moved to "In Transit" and has been stuck in that stage since. Typically, in-transit books have only taken a few days, not weeks. I was wondering if there was a problem with the system or with the book or if it had perhaps gotten lost.

Answer

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and sorry for the trouble! Yes, this is a pretty clear sign of a hold that has been misplaced. I've called the libraries between which the in-transit hold should have been moving, and a location where another copy shows as checked in, and so far no copy has been found where it should be.

I've shifted your hold back from the specific missing copy to a hold on the next available copy, so you'll no longer be stuck in limbo. Whether we find one of the missing copies, or a copy is returned to the library, we'll get it routed to your pickup location ASAP. We have a team of staff that track down unfilled requests; I'll bring this to their attention and get a deep search systemwide for the graphic novel.

Look for an email notification when the item is found and ready for you at your pickup location. Again, I really do apologize for the long wait and the mishandled inventory. Please feel free to give us a call at 402-444-4800 if you have questions, and thanks for using AskOPL!
