Does the library take book or magazine donations

I have a collection of national geographic magazines 1940s to 2006. They are in good shape and would like to know if the libary would be interested in them.

Thanks for asking! Unfortunately we'll have to decline on the National Geographic set; OPL already has a complete collection of National Geographic in bound volumes at the Main Library - that plus the recent copies held by all of our branches with National Geographic subscriptions are sufficient to our needs. In addition, the Friends of the Library are currently unable to accept magazine donations.

In a broader sense, we are happy to accept book donations, though not magazines. Most donated material makes its way to the Friends of the Library book sale, where the proceeds are used to support the library. In some cases, if donated items are in pristine condition and would fill a gap in our collection, they may be added to the library. We also ask that items in poor condition not be donated - especially not anything with water damage or mildew, since they can be dangerous to other books. Donated materials can be brought to any Omaha Public Library location, and a donation receipt can be provided for tax reporting.

Sorry we couldn't offer a good home for your magazines, and thanks for using AskOPL! National Geographic offers some tips for donating, trading, or selling a collection in this old FAQ page:
