How do I download an ebook onto my tablet?

The Overdrive app is installed. When I find a book, I am asked if I want to place the book on hold. I have done that. What happens next?

Thanks for asking! At this point, all of our licenses for the book you were interested in are in use. We pay publishers for a certain number of digital copies, so there are, unfortunately, still waiting lists for some of our ebooks. Since you've placed the book on hold, you can track its status from the "My Account" section of the app, and you'll receive an email when you come up in the list. At that point a download button will activate next to the book's cover art, which you can use to download the title onto your tablet. The whole transaction is in-app and usually works pretty smoothly.

As you browse through our collection of ebooks and audiobooks, the easiest shorthand to tell if a book is currently available is the icon that appears on the corner of each title's cover art - if the icon is black, a copy is ready for immediate checkout and download; if it is grey, all of our copies are currently in use. You can also change the titles displayed as you browse to see only items that are currently available.

I'm afraid my description here is a bit abstract - let me encourage you to check out the Overdrive Support page for more detailed descriptions, plus screenshots and video. Feel free to stop by any library with your tablet, too - our staff should be able to walk you through the checkout, and it gets a lot easier after the first time you see it.

Thanks again for using AskOPL!
