Thanks for asking! Millard: Times Remembered describes the building as being constructed in 1912. This lines up pretty well with the NHPS reconnaissance survey of the Millard area, which doesn't list a specific year but puts it in the right era. The snippet from Times Remembered says it thus: "Imagine today's Millard Roadhouse when it was first constructed in 1912. The building has always been a bar or restaurant - only the name has changed over time: Marode's, McGoogan's, Schmidt's Chicken Dinner Place, Stockade, and now the Millard Roadhouse." The building as it currently stands combines the 1912 structure with two smaller, adjoining buildings - going by the county assessor's records, I think that 'merger' took place in 1961. 1. Is there any information on the building when called Marode's? I am related to Fred (Fritz) Marode and my aunt and uncle operated the Stockade.

  2. Thanks for asking! We have very little information about Marode's. Best, easiest to access source looks like the historic newspaper database Chronicling America:

Limit to Nebraska and Keyword search "Marode's" will bring back some advertisements and a few less-than-cheerful news articles about the hotel and bar from the Omaha Bee.
