Q

does the library filter internet sources for objectionable websites at the "childrens/teen computer stations"? Do all branches apply the same filters

I have read your policy about internet safety, downloaded the teen pledge for being smart online and will use your excellent suggestions to discuss a personal plan with my teen

We're glad you found our information useful!

To answer your question:  Yes, especially at the teen and childrens' stations we do use filters.  Nearly all of our PCs have filtering on them, and any PC that doesn't is adult-access only and clearly marked. Age restrictions on your child's card will make them unable to log in to these computers, just as adults aren't able to use childrens' computers.  Also our free public WiFi is not filtered.

Even with these we expect patrons to follow our internet use policy, so purely pornographic sites (for example) are not allowed.  All the branches apply the same filters and the only difference is some areas meant for adults may have more restrictions as to gaming sites, etc.

Thank you for your question!
