Q

I want to place a hold on Up in the Old Hotel by Joseph Mitchell. Listed and has 3 reviews, but does not allow a hold.

If you haven't purchased it, I would not think it would be listed. I really want to read this recommended book.

Thanks for asking, and sorry for the inconvenience! Library books have a certain life cycle - over time they wear out and are removed from our collection, but there's unfortunately a short lag time before they disappear from the catalog. Looks like that's what's happened here - the book served us well since the early 1990s, but we no longer have a copy in circulation.

Since you're highly interested in reading Mitchell's book, I'd encourage you to consider requesting it through inter-library loan. ILL service comes with a charge for return postage on the book, but it allows us to contact other libraries around the region and arrange to borrow a copy for you. You can place that request directly through the WorldCat database linked above or with a paper request form at your neighborhood library.

Thanks again for contacting AskOPL! Feel free to email back or call 402-444-4800 with further questions.
