Q

How do i stop getting the message to upgrade media player in Windows 8 when I'm not even using it?

This message pops up almost all the time and when I try to upgrade it it goes no where.

Answer

Is the message "You need to update your version of MediaPlayer"?  If so, this might be relevant:

If it's just the normal prompt to upgrade that comes when there is a new version of Media Player, there is apparently a way to disable that, too, but it sounds like something that shouldn't be attempted unless you know what you're doing:

I hope one of these helps!
